Christopher Allen "Chris" Gardocki (* 7. February 1970 in Stone Mountain , Georgia ) is a former American American football poker players. He is considered one of the best punters in the history of the National Football League (NFL).
Player career
college
Gardocki received a scholarship from Clemson University in Clemson , South Carolina , where he played the Clemson Tigers on their football team . He was used as a punter and as a kicker . During his college career , he never missed a point after touchdown , but instead turned all opportunities. He scored 107 points with field goals . After his third year, he left college a year earlier than planned in 1990. Even so, he is considered to be one of the greatest football players of all time who ever studied at Clemson University.
Professional time
In 1991 he was elected 78th place in the third round of the 1991 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears, a team of the NFL . For a kicker / punter this was extraordinarily early. Usually these types of players are signed later. The early choice was a sign of Gardocki's exceptional skills. Gardocki was only used as a punter in the NFL. In 1994 he moved to the Indianapolis Colts and then moved to the Cleveland Browns in 1999 . He also had a negative experience with the Browns. In a game against the Pittsburgh Steelers , he was tackled improperly by an opposing player and injured. His opponent Joey Porter was banned and Gardocki had to pay a $ 5,000 fine. He had made an insulting gesture to the opposing head coach Bill Cowher in front of the television cameras. What was amazing was that Gardocki was under contract with the Steelers from 2004 to 2006 after he had fulfilled his contract with the Browns. Bill Cowher was still a Pittsburgh coach at the time . With the Steelers he won the Super Bowl XL against the Seattle Seahawks team with 21:10. Gardocki was used several times in this game. He always managed to keep the opposing team away from his own end zone with long punts . In 2007, Gardocki was fired from the Steelers.
Gardocki has extraordinary statistics. None of his 1177 punts made in the regular season was blocked by the opponent. With his punts he achieved a gain of 50,336 yards . His career average during his career was 42.8 yards per punt. In his best year of 2000, he had an average of 45.5 yards.
Honors
In 1996 Gardocki played in the Pro Bowl , the final game of the best players of the season. He was voted All Pro twice .
After the career
Gardocki is married to a lawyer and has one son. His wife wrote a book about her experience as a gamer woman. Both are socially committed and support various non-profit organizations.
