Mitchell Shannon Berger (born June 24, 1972 in Kamloops , British Columbia , Canada ) is a retired Canadian American football player . He played as a punter in the National Football League (NFL).

Player career

Berger played Canadian football and basketball in high school . On his high school football team, he plays as a table footballer , punter and quarterback . Because of his athletic achievements, he was selected as both a basketball player and American football player in the national team. Berger studied at Tyler Junior College , where he made it to All American , and at the University of Colorado at Boulder . In 1994 he was drawn by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round in 193rd place in the NFL Draft . From 1995 he played actively for the Minnesota Vikings , St. Louis Rams , New Orleans Saints , Arizona Cardinals , and Pittsburgh Steelers . With the Steelers he won the Super Bowl XLIII . He punted three times in that game, averaging 46.3 yards. Most recently, Berger was under contract with the Denver Broncos .

Honors

Berger was voted All-Pro twice and played in two Pro Bowls , the season final game of the best players of a season.

Off the field

Berger is co-owner of a restaurant chain. One of his business partners is Steve Passmore , a former ice hockey player who was also active with Adler Mannheim .
