The Super Bowl XX was the 20th Super Bowl , the final game of the 1985 season of the National Football League (NFL). It was held on January 26, 1986 in New Orleans , Louisiana , at the Louisiana Superdome . The winners of the National Football Conference (NFC), the Chicago Bears , competed against the winners of the American Football Conference (AFC), the New England Patriots . The Bears won the game by 36 points, which was a record up to Super Bowl XXIV , and they were able to set the record for the most sacks (seven) and the fewest allowed yards (also seven). The Patriots were only able to score 123 yards, the second fewest in Super Bowl history. Super Bowl MVP became Defensive End Richard Dent with 1.5 sacks and two fumbles .
First, the Patriots were in the lead with a field goal , but the Bears quickly caught up. This was followed by three field goals and five touchdowns by the Bears up to the next points in New England. In the final quarter, the Patriots were able to score seven insignificant points, but this was followed by a rare safety from the Bears.
