The Super Bowl XXVI was the 26th Super Bowl , the final game of the 1991 season of the National Football League (NFL). On January 26, 1992, the Washington Redskins won the Vince Lombardi Trophy for the third time, after winning Super Bowl XVII and Super Bowl XXII . It was the second loss in a row for the Buffalo Bills . For Super Bowl MVP was quarterback of the Redskins, Mark Rypien chosen.

After Super Bowl XVI , the Minneapolis final was only the second that was played in a city with a cold winter climate. Usually, the finals take place in the warmer regions of the United States . The Washington Redskins finished the regular season with a record of 14: 2 as champions of the NFC East and were qualified for the play-offs as the best team in the National Football Conference (NFC) . After victories against the Atlanta Falcons and the Detroit Lions , the team from the capital was in the Super Bowl.

Course of the game

First halftime

After a first quarter without countable successes, the Redskins were able to score first points in the second quarter with a field goal. The Redskins get two touchdowns by half time. First Ernest Byner could achieve a touchdown after a pass from quarterback Mark Rypien and then a running game could be completed with a touchdown.

Second halftime

Even after the break, the Redskins determined the game and were able to achieve another touchdown. The Bills could only score points in the third quarter. After a field goal and a touchdown, the Bills were able to reduce the gap to 14 points. The Redskins were able to extend their lead to 21 points in this quarter. In the last quarter, the Redskins were able to extend their lead with two field goals. By the end of the game, the Bills could only score two touchdowns, but it wasn't enough to turn the game around.
