Alondra de la Parra Borja (born October 31, 1980 in New York ) is a Mexican conductor . From 2017 to 2019 she was chief conductor of the Queensland Symphony Orchestra .

Life

When Alondra was two years old, her family moved to Mexico. She started playing the piano at the age of seven. At 13 she took cello lessons and at 16 she attended a private school in England. Alondra de la Parra was married twice, including from 2008 to 2010 her first marriage to Carlos Zedillo, the son of Ernesto Zedillo . With her partner Teo de María y Campos, she has two sons who were born in 2015 and 2018.

Professional background

education

After returning to Mexico, she studied composition at the Centro de Investigación y Estudios Musicales in Mexico City , before going to the Manhattan School of Music in New York at the age of 20 , where she studied piano with Jeffrey Cohen and conducting with Kenneth Kiesler .

Alondra de la Parra as founder

In 2004, at the age of 23, Alondra de la Parra founded the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Americas (POA) in New York with the aim of promoting the work of young soloists and composers in North and South America. The POA goes on international tours and holds competitions for young composers. Her only recording with the POA so far is Mi Alma Mexicana / My Mexican Soul (2010).
