The Georgia Dome was an indoor American football - stadium in the US city of Atlanta in the state of Georgia .
history
The dome opened on September 6, 1992 and was the home of the Atlanta Falcons NFL team until January 2017 . Between 1997 and 1999, the Atlanta Hawks basketball team played their NBA games here. In 1994 and 2000 the dome was the venue for the Super Bowl ( XXVIII and XXXIV ). The 2006 Sugar Bowl and the Final Four of the NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Championship in 2002, 2007 and 2013 were also held here. The Georgia State Panthers, the Georgia State University football team, have also played here since 2010 . 28,155 places were available for this. On April 3, 2011 Wrestlemania XXVII took place here in front of over 71,000 fans.
Right next to the Georgia Dome, the Mercedes-Benz Stadium was built in May 2014 as the new venue for the Atlanta Falcons. The new building for 1.4 billion US dollars was officially inaugurated on August 26, 2017. On November 20, 2017, the Georgia Dome was blown up.
