The Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium existed from 1965 to 1996 in Atlanta , Georgia , USA . It hosted a wide variety of sporting activities, especially baseball , American football , soccer , rock concerts and other major events. The construction of the Olympic Stadium (which was known as Turner Field and has since been converted into College Football Stadium) immediately adjacent to the Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium for the 1996 Olympics made it obsolete and demolished in 1997. Today there is a Turner Field parking lot on the site.
Initially referred to as Atlanta Stadium, it was completed in 1965 to be ready for the relocation of the resettled Atlanta Braves from Milwaukee as a National League team to Major League Baseball ; this move was delayed by a year due to lawsuits from Milwaukee, so that the stadium was initially not used adequately. In addition to the Braves, the Atlanta Falcons (1966), an NFL team and the Atlanta Chiefs (1967), a soccer (soccer) team, played their home games in this stadium.
In 1976 the stadium was renamed to commemorate funding from Fulton County . The last major events in the stadium were the baseball competitions at the 1996 Olympic Games and three games of the 1996 World Series , the finals of the US baseball leagues. The 1996 capacity was 52,000 spectators.
