history
Construction of the GSU Sports Arena began in 1972 and the arena was completed the following year. In 1996 the sports facility was used to host the Olympic badminton competitions. The arena is divided into four levels. The first is where the university's athletics department is located, the second is where the changing rooms are located and the third is the main hall. The audience tiers are distributed over the third and fourth levels. A new field was relocated before the 2003/04 season. On December 12, 2003 the field was named Charles “Lefty” Driesell Court in honor of the former coach “Lefty” Driesell (1997-2003). In 2006 a display board with a screen was installed on a hall wall . In the summer of 2015, the hall received a video cube under the roof, which replaced the old display board.
In May 2012, Georgia State University unveiled a master plan for upgrading the university's sports facilities. At the GSU Sports Arena, among other things, the playing field is to be rotated by 90 ° . The number of seats is to be increased from 3,400 to 4,100. In total the hall would hold up to 5,000 visitors.
