The Tampa Stadium was an American football - stadium in the US city of Tampa in the state of Florida . It was the home ground of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers from the National Football League (NFL) from 1976 to 1997 . It was demolished in 1998 after the construction of the Raymond James Stadium , sometimes called "The New Sombrero" (in memory of its predecessor despite its non-circular design).

Great bowls

The Super Bowl was played twice in the stadium. On January 22, 1984, Super Bowl XVIII took place between the Los Angeles Raiders and the Washington Redskins . The game ended 38-9 for the Los Angeles Raiders. The Super Bowl XXV was held on 27 January 1991 between the New York Giants and Buffalo Bills instead. The game ended 20:19 for the New York Giants.
