The US Bank Stadium is an American football - stadium in the US city of Minneapolis in the state of Minnesota . The stadium is the new home of the Minnesota Vikings from the National Football League (NFL) and was completed in June 2016. It is located on the site of the previously demolished Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome where the Vikings fought out their home games from 1982 to 2013, before the construction phase in the TCF Bank Stadium on the campus of the University of Minnesota moved. The stadium has 66,665 seats. It can be expanded to a maximum of 70,000 places.

history

Although the Minnesota Vikings would have liked to have either an open stadium or one with a closable roof, the US Bank Stadium was built with the roof permanently closed. The reason was, on the one hand, the additional costs for a closable roof and, on the other hand, the governments of the state of Minnesota and the city of Minneapolis did not want a permanently open stadium to be able to use it for sports other than American football and other events such as concerts in winter. However, as a kind of compromise solution, the south side of the roof is provided with a transparent ETFE film system and therefore allows a lot of daylight into the interior. On the west side of the stadium, the glass front has five hydraulically pivoting glass doors with an area of almost 3,000 . The Minnesota Vikings must decide whether the doors are open or closed up to 90 minutes before a game. Although the area is twice as large, the new stadium should be much more environmentally friendly than the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. The energy consumption will be lower by 16 percent. Water consumption could be reduced by 37 percent. The use of LED lighting technology should also save energy in this area. In December 2015 the two LED video walls from Daktronics were installed in the stadium. The screen in the east is 29 meters wide and 16.7 meters high. On the opposite side in the west it measures 36.6 meters in width and 24.4 meters in height.

The total cost to build is $ 1.1 billion , of which $ 348 million from the State of Minnesota, $ 150 million from the City of Minneapolis, and $ 551 million from the Vikings and private donors be taken over.

On June 3, 2016, the Certificate of Occupancy , similar to an operating license, was issued for the US Bank Stadium . Thus the stadium is fully usable for the Minnesota Vikings. The inauguration took place on July 22, 2016. The next day there was an open house at the US Bank Stadium.

On August 3, 2016, the new building was officially inaugurated with a soccer game. The Chelsea defeated in the first major event in the sold out with 64,101 spectators home to AC Milan with 3: 1.

On February 4, 2018, the Super Bowl LII took place at the US Bank Stadium. The Final Four of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship of the College Sports Association of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) also took place here in April 2019 .

The namesake is the US bank , which acquired the naming rights and pays 220 million US dollars for it in 25 years.
