US Bancorp is a United States finance company headquartered in Minneapolis , Minnesota . The company is listed on the S&P 500 stock index and is the fifth largest bank in the United States. The total of deposits is $ 341 billion. The current company emerged from a series of mergers:

  • 1999: merger of Firstar Corporation and Star Bank (formerly First National Cincinnati ) of Cincinnati
  • 2000: Firstar acquires Mercantile Bancorporation from St. Louis, Missouri
  • 2001: Sale of the former USBancorp ; Firstar changes name to Bancorp
