The US Bank Tower is a 73-story skyscraper in Los Angeles .

The structure is the second tallest building in Los Angeles , California , the third tallest on the west coast of the United States, and the 16th tallest in the United States . In 2017, the new Wilshire Grand Tower, at 335 meters, surpassed the US Bank Tower in its position as the tallest building in the city. The 310 meter high skyscraper was built between 1987 and 1989 as the First Interstate World Center and is one of the few skyscrapers in the metropolis, which is frequently hit by earthquakes , designed to be earthquake- proof. It is said to withstand tremors up to a magnitude of 8.3 on the Richter scale .
The cost of the building amounted to 350 million US dollars . It was designed by the architects Pei Cobb Freed & Partners .
Since the original owner, the United States First Interstate Bank merged with Wells Fargo Bank , the building has also been known as the Library Tower as it is considered part of the new construction of the Los Angeles Central Library . In March 2003, the US Bancorp acquired the building, from then on it was called the US Bank Tower.
The highest helicopter landing pad on a building is on the roof above the 73 floors . Also on the roof are two 23 meter high, illuminated logos of the US Bancorp.
At the end of June 2016, a glass slide was built on the building between the 70th and 71st floors. The glass is just 3.5 cm thick, but it can withstand tornadoes .
Terrorist attack plans in 2002
The then President George W. Bush announced on February 9, 2006 that the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda had planned an attack with an airplane on the US Bank Tower, similar to the one on September 11, 2001 on the New York World Trade Center .

- In the film The Day After Tomorrow (2004) the building is badly damaged by a tornado .
- In the games GTA San Andreas and GTA V there is an allusion to the building. There, however, this building is called the Maze Bank Tower.
- In the film 2012 (2009) the building is destroyed by a huge earthquake .
- In the documentary series Life After People of History Channel shows how a future without human impact on the building. A medium earthquake will eventually bring it down after 600 years.
- In the movie Big Ass Spider! (2013) a monster spider holed up on the building at the finale of the film.
