List of tallest buildings in the United States
The list of tallest buildings in the United States includes lists of the United States' skyscrapers compiled from different angles:
- A ranking of the tallest buildings in general,
- additional lists according to different measurement categories (e.g. height including antennas etc.),
- in terms of time,
- according to function and the degree of their implementation (e.g. under construction or in planning and the like).
- At the end there is a list of the buildings that no longer exist, but were once among the tallest.
introduction
Since its topping-out ceremony in May 2013, the tallest building in the United States has been the 541 m high One World Trade Center in New York , which also opened in November 2014. It replaced the Willis Tower (formerly Sears Tower ) in Chicago, completed in 1974, after 39 years as the tallest building in the country. The 442 m high Willis Tower was known as the tallest building on earth until 1998. This title was controversial after 1998, however, as the Willis Tower was the tallest completed building in total height (with masts) in the world until the Burj Khalifa opened in 2010 . The top of the antenna rises 527 m into the sky, making it the second highest non-guyed structure in the country. With 432 Park Avenue , a skyscraper was completed in 2015, which at 426 m is the third tallest building in the USA. In addition, the tower is currently the tallest residential building in the world . Fourth on the list of tallest buildings in the United States is the Trump International Hotel & Tower with a height of 423 m (357 m to the roof, mast counts to the height, unlike the Willis Tower and the Empire State Building, because this mast Part of the building architecture). It was opened in 2009 and is located in Chicago. The fifth tallest building in the USA is the Empire State Building in New York (381 m, 443 m with antenna, 102 floors). From September 11, 2001 until the One World Trade Center was built, it was again the tallest building in New York City . In sixth place is the Bank of America Tower , which was completed in 2009 and measures 366 m. It is the fourth tallest structure in New York City.
The tallest building outside of New York City and Chicago is the Comcast Technology Center in Philadelphia with a height of 342 m. The Wilshire Grand Tower in Los Angeles , the tallest skyscraper on the west coast of the United States, is just seven meters smaller . However, the tower is only ranked tenth on the list of tallest buildings in the United States.
In 2007, construction began on the Chicago Spire , which was to become the tallest skyscraper in the United States at 6,000 feet. In autumn 2008, however, the construction work was stopped indefinitely as a result of the financial crisis of 2007 , the property has been offered for sale since 2011, which suggests that the project has been completely abandoned. Some other construction projects were also interrupted due to the crisis.
Currently (as of 2019) other high-rise buildings are under construction, most of them in New York. One World Trade, completed in 2014, is part of the new World Trade Center complex, where more high-rise buildings are to be built. However, the 2 World Trade Center planned with a height of 411 m has been on a construction freeze since 2010. In addition, some new super high skyscrapers with luxury apartments are being built or are in the planning stage. Among these is the Central Park Tower , the completion of which is planned for 2019, and with a height of 472 m would make the tallest residential building in the world. The Hudson Yards Project has been under construction in New York City since 2012 , a new building complex consisting of around 15 skyscrapers, some of which reach 300 m.
Highest building
According to the official height
This list shows the tallest buildings in the United States . Completed buildings are listed, those under construction only when they have already reached their final height (these are provided with footnotes). The official height with the height of the building structure including spiers, but without antennas and other technical structures, applies to the ranking list. The Use column indicates the functions of the building: A single function is given if 85 percent or more of the building's usable area is used for a purpose. Mixed use is when each individual function takes up at least 15 percent of the usable area. All buildings with a height of at least 250 m are listed.
