SkyscraperPage (abbreviated SSP , German  skyscraper page ) is an English language website from Skyscraper Source Media Inc. based in Victoria (British Columbia) , Canada . The company has been operating with copyright since 1997. According to the Whois entry, the SkyscraperPage.com domain was registered on May 18, 1999, according to which Dylan Leblanc represents the company externally.

overview

The website was founded with the aim of creating the largest database of skyscrapers and other structures, one also deals with architecture . These include, above all, the so-called 'skyscraper diagrams', in which buildings are shown graphically. Below the diagram, the most important data of the building are listed: the name, the location (city and country), the year of construction, the status, the number of floors, the use and the height of the roof, the spire and the antenna (for some Structures cannot all of these three lines be filled in). Skyscraperpage offers information about buildings of various types, so there are not only skyscrapers but also television towers, transmission masts, churches and monasteries, chimneys, stadiums, silos and lower buildings. This database currently includes almost 100,000 buildings, there are over 49,600 graphics (as of 2015). There are structures registered in every state, but they differ in number. For example, there are significantly more buildings in the database in the USA and China than in Greece .

Skyscraperpage.com has been offering a forum since 1999. Registered users have the opportunity to discuss with other users and to submit requests for new structures to be added to the database. In addition, the company operates a web shop on the website, through which posters of the objects from the database and similar items can be purchased.

Diagrams

In the case of the 'skyscraper diagrams', buildings are graphically compared (in terms of height and design) and displayed. The graphics shown should be based on the real building in terms of optics. All drawings are presented as GIF . They are drawn by users of the site who have registered as illustrators. The illustrators are volunteer users of the site.

Some data on the structure are listed below the graphics. Skyscraperpage defines the following status categories for buildings:

  • Built
  • Under construction
  • Construction interrupted
  • In planning
  • vision
  • Withdraw
  • Fantasy (building was invented by the draftsman himself)
  • Demolished or destroyed

The standard diagrams (city or country diagram) only include the first four of the categories listed above. The website is based on the criteria of the internationally recognized commission Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat , which is responsible for measuring the height of high-rise buildings.

For copyright reasons it is not possible to freely copy or publish the graphics of the buildings. However, in exceptional cases an application can be made to obtain a license for individual building graphics.
