Nikolas Petrik (born March 19, 1984 in Villach ) is a former Austrian ice hockey striker who was last under contract with the EC VSV in the Austrian ice hockey league from 2017 to 2019 . His younger brother Benjamin is also a hockey player.
Career
Nikolas Petrik came to the EC VSV as the son of the former VSV player Helmut Petrik as a teenager . After two years in the first team of the VSV, with which he became Austrian champion in 2002 , he switched to the EC Graz 99ers for one season in 2003 , after which he returned to Villach and won the national championship title again with the Carinthians in 2006. Since 2012 he has been under contract with Dornbirn EC , whose team captain he has been since 2014.
In March 2017 his renewed engagement with the EC VSV became known, where he also became team captain. He ended his career after the 2018/19 season. Petrik played 796 Bundesliga games and is sixth in the all-time best of the Austrian ice hockey league . He has been the Villach athletic trainer since 2019.
International
In the junior division, Petrik took part in the U18 World Championships in Division I in 2001 and 2002 and in the U20 World Championships in Division I in 2003 and the Top Division in 2004 . With the Austrian student selection he took part in the Winter Universiade 2005 in Innsbruck and Seefeld in Tyrol .
For the national team Petrik made his debut on April 14, 2005 in the 4-5 defeat against the Czech Republic in Znojmo . The attacking player did not play his first world championship until nine years later, when he took part in Division I of the 2014 World Cup with the team from the Alpine region and was promoted to the top division. There he played at the 2015 World Cup . After relegation, he took part in the Division I World Championship in 2016 . He also took part in qualifying for the 2018 Winter Olympics, but after clear defeats against Latvia (1: 8) and Germany (0: 6) in a 3-0 win against Japan, the Austrians were eliminated in third place .
