Metropolitan Miami is the name of a building complex in Miami . The complex consists of two completed buildings and another planned to be built. The buildings are named Met 1 , Met 2 and Met 3 . The individual buildings have different uses.

The individual buildings

Met 1

Met 1 was completed in 2007 and is 134 meters high. It has 40 floors, all of which are used for apartments.

Met 2

Met 2 is 197 meters high . The building project was presented to the public back in 2005. Construction work on the tower began in 2007 and was completed after three years in 2010. At 197 meters and 47 floors, it is the fifth tallest building in the city. The 47 floors of the skyscraper offer a usable area of around 60,000 square meters for offices.

The address is 255 Biscayne Boulevard Way Miami, FL .

Met 3

At a height of 252 meters, Met 3 is to be one of the tallest buildings in the city. It would also tower over Miami's currently tallest building, the 240-meter-high Four Seasons Hotel & Tower . Identical to Met 1, this building will also be used for apartments. The number of floors will be 76. As of 2012, the building was still in the planning phase. Since then, however, no further planning and construction details have been known.

Archaeological finds

The implementation of the third phase was delayed when a 2000 year old Tequesta village was found under a previous parking lot , which is considered one of the most important archaeological finds in the United States. The area had long been identified as a potential archaeological zone, which is why the project developer had to carry out an archaeological study.

So far (as of February 2014) post holes from eight large round buildings came to the surface, as well as connecting structures and over 1000 artifacts of various types. In addition, a fountain and artefacts from Fort Dallas , a fort from the Seminole Wars of the 19th century and foundations of the Royal Palm Hotel by Henry Morrison Flagler , from which the city of Miami was founded , were found on the site .

The building developer of the MDM Development Group , together with the city and county, is considering whether and how the finds can be protected in whole or in part. Florida considers the find to be sufficiently significant for designation as a National Historic Landmark , and those involved now also speak of a potential UNESCO World Heritage Site .

A similar site on the opposite, southern bank of the Miami River has already been set up as a place of remembrance.
