Aqua is the name of a 262 meter tall skyscraper in Chicago that was completed in 2009.
description
Construction of the building began in 2007; The structure reached its maximum height in the spring of 2009, but the construction work was not fully completed until September 2009. The Aqua is 262 meters high and has 86 floors.
In the lower area of the high-rise building (first to 18th floor) there is a hotel with a total of 215 hotel rooms, in the area above there are apartments. With 86 storeys, the building has many storeys in relation to its height of 262 meters - the Aon Center , a few hundred meters away, has 83 floors, but is significantly higher at 346 meters. Overall, the building has the fourth most floors in Chicago and the seventh most in the United States. Each floor of the skyscraper covers an area of 1,500 square meters. There is also a 5,100 m² shopping area in the building. A park was created in front of and around the skyscraper in order to better integrate the building into the cityscape.
The name of the building can be traced back to the design based on the design complex “water”; an example of this is the undulating design of the facade. In addition, environmentally friendly aspects were in the foreground when building the building. It was designed by Jeanne Gang and her husband Marc Gang , who jointly run an architecture office in Chicago. Megellan Development Group is the builder or owner. This company had previously developed housing and hotel projects in Chicago.
The structure was built entirely in reinforced concrete .
The Aqua Tower received the Emporis Skyscraper Award for 2009 .
