After the construction project in southern Manhattan was presented to the public in 2005, construction began in 2006. In November 2009 the building reached its maximum height of 267 meters and has since been an outstanding and distinctive tower in the skyline of southern Manhattan. In September 2010, the work on the facade was completely finished. In addition to the window panes, it is made of aluminum that shimmers in a grayish tone. The official opening of the skyscraper took place on February 10, 2011. Its dominance in the skyline of southern Manhattan is, however, limited by the construction site of the One World Trade Center , as it has already reached a significantly greater height. From the famous Brooklyn Bridge, however, you have an extremely good view of the building.

The skyscraper has 76 floors above the ground floor, which are almost completely occupied by living spaces. The tower surpassed the five meters lower Trump World Tower (also in New York) in this discipline and is also currently (as of 2016) the 14th tallest building in New York . The building is also the sixth most storey building in the city. Only One World Trade Center (104 floors), Empire State Building (102 floors), 432 Park Avenue (85 floors), One57 (79 floors), and the Chrysler Building (77 floors) have more floors. The high-rise ends with a flat roof and has a few small recesses in its shape. The main body looks like two pillars placed side by side. The facade is slightly corrugated and also shows various structural patterns that architecturally set the tower apart from many other buildings in the city. The structure is made of reinforced concrete .

In the immediate vicinity is the significantly lower Park Place Tower , and the historically significant and somewhat lower Woolworth Building is not far away.

Also known as the Beekman Tower, it is not identical to the neighboring skyscraper The Beekman Hotel & Residences .
