The Trump World Tower is one of the tallest and most expensive residential buildings in the world. It is located on United Nations Plaza on First Avenue between 47th and 48th Streets in Manhattan , New York City . It is to be distinguished from the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue, which was built in 1983 . The building is owned by real estate entrepreneur and US President Donald Trump and was completed in 2001 after a construction period of two years.

The structure is the thirteenth tallest residential building in the United States and one of the tallest in the world. With a height of 262 meters, it is the 23-tallest building in New York City (as of 2019). The Trump World Tower was the tallest residential building in New York City and the United States from 2001 to 2011. In 2011, however, he had to surrender this status to the 8 Spruce Street skyscraper in Lower Manhattan , which is 267 meters high and has 76 floors. Since the renewed construction boom that accompanied the completion of the One57 (306 meters, completed in 2014) and 432 Park Avenue (426 meters, completed in 2015), it is only the tenth-tallest residential building in the city.
The skyscraper was built by investor Donald Trump . Construction work began in 1999 and ended in 2001. The architect of the building is the Greek Costas Kondylis . The upper two floors of the 72-storey tower stood for 58 million US dollars for sale. For marketing reasons, the number of floors on the elevators is given as 90 instead of the actual 72. However, there is no apartment on the top floor, but the caretaker's office.
Due to the building rights in Manhattan, it was permissible to buy the neighbors the right to build in the air ("air rights trade") and to add these vertical meters to one's own building. Trump also created green spaces that also allowed him to build higher. According to the term “free looking / high price” coined by Trump, he can guarantee that his apartments guarantee an optimal view of the Manhattan skyline, as no neighboring building will in future restrict the view through higher development. Donald Trump himself does not live in the Trump World Tower, but has his own apartment on the top floors of the Trump Tower . Famous residents of the skyscraper are Sophia Loren and Cem Uzan .
Controversy
Due to its dominant location opposite the UN headquarters from the 1950s, residents and diplomats litigated against the building's construction for a long time.
