Constantine Andrew Kondylis (born April 17, 1940 in Bujumbura , Burundi , Belgian Congo ; † August 17, 2018 in New York City , United States ) was a Greek- American architect .

Life

Constantine Andrew Kondylis was born in Africa to Greek parents. His father was an entrepreneur who owned several coffee plantations and shops. At the age of 13 the family moved back to Greece . At the age of 17, Kondylis originally wanted to study automobile design, but from 1959 studied architecture at the University of Geneva . After graduating, he lived in Switzerland until 1967 and toured Europe. From 1967 to 1969 he studied urban planning at Columbia University in New York City . He worked as an architect at Davis Brody & Associates until 1979 and was most recently Director of Housing and Urban Design . Like many other architects, he worked in Iran during the New York debt crisis . From 1980 to 1989 he was a Senior Partner at Philip Birnbaum & Associates before founding his first architecture firm, Costas Kondylis & Associates .

In 2009 his company, which was already trading under the name Costas Kondylis and Partners, LLP , was dissolved. This was preceded by the departure of the architects and senior partners Alan Goldstein , Steven Hill and David West from the company. Different reasons were given for the separation. Kondylis mentioned the market situation, whereby the customers would have remained loyal to the company, but the order volume had decreased. He then founded a new company with Kondylis Design . By 2011 Kondylis had constructed 86 buildings. The most famous buildings include the Silver Towers , the Barclay Tower , the Trump International Hotel and Tower and the Trump World Tower .
