220 Central Park South is a skyscraper under construction in New York City , the plans of which were first unveiled to the public in the summer of 2010. The work started in 2014 reached its final height in May 2017 and was completed in 2018.

description

In mid-January 2014, DOB (Department of Buildings - NYC) documents were filed indicating a height of 290 meters. Since the DOB only gives the height to the last occupied floor (i.e. no masts / antennas / roof ridges etc.), it was initially assumed that the tower would be around 300 meters high. It has 66 floors and is right on the southern border of Central Park , on so-called Billionaires' Row . Central Park South is one of the best and most expensive residential addresses in New York, which is why one can assume that the apartments are very luxuriously furnished. In addition, 220 CPS is seen as a direct competitor to Extell's Central Park Tower , as both skyscrapers are close to each other and thus compete for the same clientele.

The project is being developed by Vornado Realty Trust , a well-known New York real estate trust fund. Vornado is also planning other major projects, such as the 15 Penn Plaza , which was currently (as of 2014) put on hold . The building is designed as a pure residential tower. A total of only 100 residential units are to be built. The building was designed by the famous architect Robert AM Stern, who is responsible for 45 East 60th Street , 30 Park Place and 15 Central Park West . 220 CPS is supposed to be a mixture of postmodern and art deco . Similar to the skyscrapers of the 1920s and 1930s, the tower is to have a characteristic limestone facade.

Official construction began in mid-July 2014 after concrete had been poured for the foundation for the first time. The tower reached its final height at the end of May 2017.
