30 Hudson Yards (also known as the Hudson Yards North Tower ) is a super skyscraper in New York City .

Planning and construction

The first plans for the project were presented in summer 2011. The tower is said to be on Hudson Yards - a district in the far west of Manhattan . The name is derived from the Hudson River , which marks the western edge of Manhattan Island. The street address is West 33rd Street and 10th Avenue . Currently (as of 2015), a huge building complex is to be built here, similar to that of the World Trade Center .

The north tower is 395 meters high and has 90 floors. This makes the tower 14 meters higher than the structural height of the Empire State Building . However, it is significantly lower than the One World Trade Center , which was completed in November 2014. The renowned American architecture firm Kohn Pedersen Fox was commissioned to develop the construction plans . The structure ends with a spike that follows one side of the flat roof, which is about 350 meters high. For the first time in New York, an open viewing platform is to be built outdoors. This should be open to the public and is located at a height of 336 meters. This makes it the highest helipad in the world. Another (closed) viewing deck is to be located on the upper floors (86–92). A Sky Club Lounge and a large ballroom are also to be built. The planned extension of underground line 7 ensures good public accessibility .

On July 1, 2013 it was announced that Time Warner would like to give up its location on Columbus Circle and move into the north tower by 2018 at the latest. The Time Warner Center is to be taken over by Related and converted into apartments. The groundbreaking ceremony took place on December 4, 2013. The construction of the tower first requires the construction of a platform that will cover the underground depot. Work began in early 2014. In mid-October 2014, the first steel girders were installed for the foundation, which officially commenced construction of the tower.

The skyscraper is to receive LEED Gold certification. The building reached its final height in June 2018, making it the third tallest building in New York City . Today it is the fifth highest in the city and the seventh highest in the country . On March 15, 2019, the building was inaugurated together with the other buildings in the complex. The construction work was finished in 2019 in order to adhere to the schedule (Time Warner moving in on floors 16-51). The viewing platform "The Edge" opened on March 11, 2020, but closed again on March 13 due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
