The Wilshire Grand Tower is a skyscraper in Los Angeles , California . The construction project consists of two skyscrapers with mixed use. The higher one reaches a height of 335 meters to the top of the tower. This makes the building the tallest on the west coast of the United States and in Los Angeles and surpasses both the US Bank Tower (310 meters) and the newer Salesforce Tower (326 meters) in San Francisco . When the project was presented, a height of 381 meters was planned. The building has 73 floors. Modern office space is planned in the lower part of the skyscraper, which will provide new office space in downtown Los Angeles . In the upper area is a hotel with 900 suites. A further eight floors are planned underground, which will be used for technical facilities.
Construction began in November 2013, and the project developers Thomas Properties and Korean Air named the opening date as 2017. The architecture office AC Martins & Partner was commissioned with the planning. The official approval for the construction of the building ensemble was granted in March 2011 after the first plans were presented to the public in 2009. However, an older building had to be demolished for its construction, which happened in October 2012. In 2016 the building reached its final height. The completion took place in 2017. The building was opened on March 8, 2017.
