The Homburgswarte is a lookout tower on the site of a Germanic refugee castle near the Hexentanzplatz near Thale in the Harz Mountains .

About 250 m northeast of the Harz mountain theater on the Hexentanzplatz, the Sachsenwallweg leads through a light oak forest to the Homburgswarte. This is located on the site of the former Homburg.

history

The Homburg served - like the Winzenburg on the Rosstrappe - as a refuge for the Teutons . It was built between 750 and 450 BC. And was protected by the ramparts and the Sachsenwall immediately in front of it. In the southern part of the rampart there is a gap and a ditch in front of it, behind the east rampart there is a gangway-like inner ditch.

At this point one seems to have secretly pursued Germanic customs and beliefs after Christianization , such as B. the discovery of a sacrificial stone with a swastika in 1901.

In 1901 the Harz Club built a lookout point on the Homburg site, which became increasingly dilapidated after the Second World War . The control room was rebuilt in 1993 and can be climbed.

Due to the low height of the observation deck, the view to the south and east is quite limited. To the west, however, the view opens over the Bodetal to the Brocken . In the north are u. a. make out the cities of Blankenburg , Halberstadt and Quedlinburg . Thale extends directly below the control room.
