action

Alex Mathis is an exterminator in Los Angeles and always short of money. After being bitten by a spider during an operation, he is taken to the hospital. At the same time, an undertaker in this hospital is attacked by a large spider crawling out of a corpse that has just been brought to the pathology department. Alex offers the hospital to kill the spider in exchange for his bill. While he is looking for the spider with security guard Jose, a special US Army unit led by Major Braxton C. Tanner and Lt. Karly Brant arrives at the hospital and is also looking for the spider. The animal manages to escape from the hospital into the sewer system. The major and Karly forbid Alex and Jose to continue looking for the spider, but Jose convinces Alex not to give up just yet.

The spider is now growing rapidly and is constantly looking for food. Alex and Jose find her in a park where she kills dozens of people. They lure the monster out of the park towards the military, who immediately open fire. The spider then flees first into a forest, where it catches Karly after another firefight and escapes with her towards the city center. Alex and Jose now learn from the major that the monster is a failed experiment with extraterrestrial DNA, in which huge vegetables should actually be grown. They also learn that the animal is about to reproduce.

The spider has meanwhile climbed the US Bank Tower and has laid her eggs inside the skyscraper in which the spun Karly is also located. The military wants to destroy the building and the monsters with an air strike. However, Alex wants to save Karly and can delay the airstrike. He and Jose manage to get Karly out of the house and kill the hatched young animals. Alex and Jose remember the first time they met the spider in the hospital they noticed that the webs are extremely flammable. He decides to kill the monster with a shot with a bazooka in the spinneret , which he finally succeeds.
