The 40th Saturn Award ceremony took place on June 26, 2014 in Burbank , California . Significant changes were the introduction of two new categories: Best Comics Adaptation and Best Young TV Actor . In addition, the category for the best thriller will be evaluated independently for the first time. The nominations were announced on February 25, 2014.
In the film sector, Gravity and The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug received the highest number of nominations, each with eight nominations, followed by The Hunger Games - Catching Fire with seven. In the television sector, Breaking Bad , Falling Skies and Game of Thrones were each nominated five times, followed by American Horror Story , Hannibal , Under the Dome and The Walking Dead , all of which received four nominations each.
The most successful production was Gravity with five wins; Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead won four categories each on television .
