Gwendoline Christie
Gwendoline Tracey P. Christie (born October 28, 1978 in Worthing , Sussex ) is a British actress . She became known for her role as Brienne von Tarth in the TV series Game of Thrones .
Life
Christie grew up in a small community near the South Downs in southern England. In her youth she was trained in professional gymnastics . However, she was later unable to continue this activity due to a spinal cord injury and instead trained as an actress. She graduated from the Drama Center London in 2005 .
Christie currently lives in London.
Career
After graduating from school, author and actor Simon Callow became Christie's new mentor, allowing her to begin a career as a stage actress in the theater. She played among others in Shakespeare's Cymbeline the role of queen and 2010 in Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus to Lucifer . In 2009 she got a small role in Terry Gilliam's fantasy film The Cabinet of Doctor Parnassus and was seen for the first time in the cinema.
Since July 2011, Christie was cast in the HBO series Game of Thrones for the role of the combative Brienne of Tarth . For this, the 1.91 m tall actress took lessons in horse riding, sword fighting and stage fighting . She made her debut in the series in the third episode of the second season on April 15, 2012 and played the role altogether until the series finale in 2019.
Since the end of April 2015 it was known that Christie would play the role of Captain Phasma in the movie Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which premiered in December 2015.
