Do Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Mohamad Said bin Keruak SMN , PMN , SPDK (born November 15, 1926 in Kampong Pirasan, Kota Belud , British North Borneo ; † November 17, 1995 in Kota Kinabalu , Sabah ), was the fourth prime minister of the state of Sabah in Malaysia and President of the United Sabah National Organization (USNO) party . His tenure as Prime Minister was from 1967 to 1975. From 1987 to 1994 he was the seventh Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah .

Life

Keruak's father died in 1930 when Mohamad Said was barely four years old. He began his education at the age of seven at the Sekolah Rendah Kerajaan Kota Belud , which he left again in 1941. Due to his excellent performance in school, he was offered a place at the Kuching Agricultural College (Maktab Pertanian Kucing) in Sarawak . However, World War II and the Japanese invasion ruined his plans and forced him to return to Kota Belud. Because of his good education and ability to learn the Japanese language quickly, the Japanese appointed him deputy treasurer of the city of Jesselton . After the war, the British Military Administration (BMA) gave him an office position in the administration of the District Office in Kota Belud, where he worked until his resignation and the start of his political career in 1960.

Tun Mohamad Said died of kidney failure in 1995 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kota Kinabalu. His remains were interred in the state mausoleum at the Sabah State Mosque in Kota Kinabalu .

Political career

His political career began in 1961 when he joined the United Sabah National Organization (USNO) party . At the following annual general meeting he was elected to the supreme council of the party and then appointed vice-president.

Mohamad Said Keruak took over the office of Prime Minister of Sabah from Tun Mustapha on November 1, 1975 . After a short tenure, however, he lost his position on April 18, 1976 to Tun Fuad Stephens .

On January 1, 1987, he became Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah , the ceremonial head of state of Sabah. He held this office until December 31, 1994.
