Tan Sri Datuk Peter Lo Sui Yin (chin. 罗思仁) (born May 19, 1923 in Sandakan , British North Borneo ; † January 1, 2020 in Kota Kinabalu ) was a Malaysian politician and the 2nd Prime Minister of Sabah State . He succeeded Tun Fuad Stephens on January 1, 1965 and was replaced by Tun Mustapha on May 12, 1967 . Peter Lo, a Hakka , was a member of the Sabah Chinese Association (SCA) party.

Life

Peter Lo Sui Yin was born on May 19, 1923 in Sandakan. He first attended the St. Mary School there and then moved to the St. Anthony's Boy School in Singapore. At the Victoria University of Wellington in Wellington , New Zealand , he obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree in 1956 .

He began his professional career from 1958 to 1962 as Vice Chairman of the Sandakan Town Board. From 1961 to 1962 he was a member of the Legislative Assembly of North Borneo and, in that capacity, a member of the Sabah Public Services Commission . In 1963 he moved into the Malaysian parliament as a member of parliament and in 1964 became federal minister without a budget of his own.

The Sabah Chinese Association , to which he belongs, emerged from the Sabah National Party (SANAP). SANAP was created in 1962 from the merger of the Democratic Party and the United Party, which initially operated as the Borneo Utara National Party (BUNAP) and was renamed SANAP in 1963.

Awards and honors

On May 12, 2007 he received the Unity Award from Yang di-Pertuan Agong .
