Osu Sukam

Malay name : The part of the name "bin Haji Sukam" is a patronymic and not a family name ; the person is called Osu .

Datuk Seri Osu bin Haji Sukam was the 12th Prime Minister of Sabah State .

He succeeded Bernard Dompok in 1999 and remained in office until 2001. Osu, a Bajau came into office through the rotation principle applied at the time and represented the Muslim Bumiputeras of Sabah. In 2001 he was replaced by Chong Kah Kiat .

Life

Until 14 July 2005, he was a member of the ruling party United Malays National Organization (UMNO), but had to because of the Ritz Hotel Casino in London and other casinos accumulated gambling debts amounting to 1.8 million USD to resign. Osu amazes with his resemblance to Roland Lee Gift , the lead singer of the pop group Fine Young Cannibals .

Gambling debts

After a ruling by the High Court in England , the Ritz Hotel London is allowed to collect the debts that Osu has accumulated. In order to enforce its claims in Malaysia, the casino tried in July 2005 to assert the verdict at the Supreme Court of Sabah and Sarawak . However, the Kota Kinabalu Supreme Court did not allow the lawsuit for reasons of state . In 2007, however, the appellate court ruled in favor of the plaintiffs.
