Political career

Instead, Sakaran was sworn in as the eighth Prime Minister of Sabah. Already on December 26, 1994 he vacated the post for Salleh Said Keruak in order to be able to take up the office of Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah , the ceremonial head of state from January 1, 1995 . He held this office until December 31, 2002.

Of the numerous honors that Sakaran received in the course of his life, the order Seri Negara Maharaja Mangku (SMN) should be mentioned, which he received in 1996 from the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for his services as Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah .
