TYT Tun Datuk Haji Mohamad Adnan Robert , SMN , SPDK , SPMP, SPMK, DUPN, DP, until the conversion to Islam Mickey Robert (born September 10, 1917 in Jesselton , British North Borneo , † August 2, 2003 in Kota Kinabalu , Sabah , Malaysia ) was the 6th Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah , ceremonial head of state of the Malaysian state of Sabah from 1978 to 1987 .

Life

Mohamad Adnan Robert was born Mickey Robert on September 10, 1917 in Jesselton, British North Borneo.

Adnan was married to Toh Puan Mariam Robert; the couple had six children, three boys and three girls. Tun Mohammad Adnan's pastimes included horse riding, volleyball, soccer and badminton. He was patron of the Red Crescent in Sabah and president of the Sabah Football Association .

Tun Adnan Robert died on August 2, 2003 at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kota Kinabalu. His remains were interred in the state mausoleum at the Sabah State Mosque in Kota Kinabalu.

Professional life and political career

He began his professional life on July 1, 1937 as a medical officer in the North Borneo Chartered Company . After his probationary period in Sandakan, he worked as a dresser in Ranau , Keningau and Jesselton. He continued this activity during the occupation of Sabah by the Japanese and continued it in 1949 and 1950 after his transfer to Pensiangan .

In 1951 he became an Assistant District Officer in Pensiangan. After a one-year hiatus, in which he went through further training in public administration in Australia, returned in 1954 to the post of Assistant District Officer in Beaufort . In the same function he served from 1956 in Ranau, 1960 in Penampang and 1961 in Lamag, Kinabatangan .

In 1963 he was promoted to the higher civil service and worked as a development officer in the Department of Lands and Survey in Keningau. In 1965 he became a District Officer in Papar .

As part of an exchange program by the authorities, he was transferred to Perak for two years as Assistant District Officer in 1966 . After returning to Sabah, he first became State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, but in October of the same year he switched to the office of Secretary of the Ministry of Health.

After 35 years of service, he retired on December 31, 1972. Shortly after his retirement, however, he was hired by the Ministry of Industrial Development for another year to work as a "state industrialization official" to promote rural development in Sabah.

On June 27, 1978, he was sworn in as the sixth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah . He served two full terms as ceremonial head of state of Sabah and resigned on December 31, 1986.

Adnan's tragic climax in his political career was his role in the palace revolution of 1985 , when he first swore in the loser Tun Mustapha as the new prime minister and - after the intervention of the Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister Musa Hitam - issued the certificate of appointment for the election winner Kitingan less than 24 hours later.

Honors

Adnan received his first award in 1978 from the Prime Minister of the State of Perlis. The award "Setia Paduka Mahkota Perlis (SPMP)" included the title "Dato".

One of the highest honors the State of Malaysia has to bestow on him was in 1979: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong bestowed him the title Darjah Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) . This award includes the right to put the honorary title of doing in front of the name.

In 1980 the state of Sarawak awarded him the title "Darjah Kebesaran Negeri Sarawak (DP)", which goes hand in hand with the salutation "Datuk Patinggi". Also in 1980, the state of Penang awarded him the "Darjah Utama Pangkuan Negeri (DUPN)" award, which includes the title "Dato Seri".

The numerous honors include the first degree of Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Kinabalu (The Illustrious Order of Kinabalu), which includes the title "Datuk Seri Panglima".

He earned the honorary title “Haji” through his pilgrimage to Mecca, which he undertook on October 5, 1980 with his wife.
