Ahmad Koroh

TYT Tun Ahmad Koroh , SMN , SPDK , born as Thomas Koroh (born January 1, 1925 in Kampung Limbawan, Keningau , British North Borneo ; † June 25, 1978 in Kota Kinabalu , Sabah , Malaysia ) was the 5th from 1977 to 1978. Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah , the ceremonial head of state of the Malaysian state of Sabah.

Life

Ahmad Koroh was born as Thomas Koroh on January 1, 1925 in Kampung Limbawan, Keningau, British North Borneo. He was the second of eight children from OKK Koroh bin Santulan and his wife Isah Maria binti Santul. His mother was the younger sister of Sedomon Gunsanad .

He began his school days at the age of seven at the Sekolah Kerajaan Vernakular Melayu , the state secondary school in Keningau, and in 1939 he switched to the All Saint's School .

Ahmad Koroh's first wife, Philippa Matamit @ Sinirun died in 1947 giving birth to their second child. Tun Ahmad later remarried. He had eight children with his second wife Datin Salamah binti Datuk Hj. Said Besar and finally a daughter with his third wife Hajah Hamidah Datuk Fadzil.

Career

During the occupation of Sabah by the Japanese, he worked in public administration. After the war he worked as a clerk in the trade, as a typist and as an interpreter for the British Military Administration in North Borneo.

In 1961 he received a scholarship funded by the Colombo Plan and studied public and local administration in Australia . In 1964 he received a Diploma in Public and Social Administration from South Devon Technical College in Torquay , England.

His language skills - he was fluent in Malay, Kadazan, Murut and English - were also the key to his work as an interpreter for the Cobbold Commission in the years 1962–1963.

In 1963 he got a job as Assistant District Officer in Kunak . After three years, he was promoted to District Officer for Tenom District . In 1971 he withdrew from public administration and started his own business.

On October 12, 1977 he was sworn in as the fifth Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah . He succeeded Mohd Hamdan, who died during his tenure. But Ahmad Koroh was only in office for a short time and died of heart failure on June 25, 1978, eight months after taking office. His remains were interred in the state mausoleum at the Sabah State Mosque in Kota Kinabalu.

Honors

One of the highest honors the State of Malaysia has to bestow on him was given on June 1, 1978: the Yang di-Pertuan Agong awarded him the title Darjah Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) . This award includes the right to put the honorary title “doing” in front of the name.

Ahmad Koroh was awarded the first degree of Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Kinabalu (The Illustrious Order of Kinabalu) in 1963, which includes the title "Datuk Seri Panglima".
