Ahmad Raffae

TYT Tun Datuk Pengiran Haji Ahmad Raffae , SMN , SPDK , PPM (born November 4, 1907 in Sipitang , British North Borneo ; † March 18, 1995 in Kota Kinabalu , Sabah , Malaysia ) was a civil servant and from 1965 to 1973 the 2. Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah , the ceremonial head of state of the Malaysian state of Sabah.

Life

Ahmad Raffae was born on November 4, 1907 in Sipitang, British North Borneo. He was the fourth child of OKK Pengiran Haji Omar, a former Deputy Assistant District Officer in Putatan . His father was the first local to be appointed to this position by the North Borneo Chartered Company from 1915 to 1922 .

Ahmad Raffae first attended the private English school in Putatan and then from 1918 to 1922 the school in Papar. He then continued his education at the state secondary school in Sipitang from 1922 to 1924.

On May 1, 1930, he joined the North Borneo Chartered Company as a Grade III native officer with a monthly salary of 15 straits dollars. In 1941 he was taken on in Beaufort in a training program for future Deputy Assistant District Officer (DADO) and at the end of the training in 1942 he was employed in this position.

During the occupation of Sabah by the Japanese, he initially retained his post as Deputy Assistant District Officer in Beaufort and was then used as Gun Chu - the Japanese name for a native officer - in Sipitang, Beaufort and Kota Belud. After the end of the war, Ahmad Raffae reported back to work on July 1, 1946 and was deployed in Tenom, Beaufort, Mempakul, Sipitang, Kuala Penyu, Labuan and most recently in Penampang in the following years.

In Penampang, he was promoted to Assistant District Officer (ADO) on January 1, 1955 . In September of the same year he was transferred to Beluran , where he stayed until September 26, 1957. Until his retirement on January 14, 1963, he worked in the position of ADO in Labuan, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Ranau and Pensiangan.

On September 16, 1965, he was sworn in as the second Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah and remained in office until September 16, 1973.

Pengiran Ahmad Raffae died after a long illness on March 18, 1995 in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu. His remains were interred in the state mausoleum at the Sabah State Mosque in Kota Kinabalu.

Ahmad Raffae was married to Toh Puan Dayang Hajah Kusnah binti Enche Sian, with whom he had four children. His second wife was named Dayang Supinah binti Abdullah.

Honors

Ahmad Raffae was awarded the first degree of Darjah Yang Amat Mulia Kinabalu (The Illustrious Order of Kinabalu), which includes the title "Datuk Seri Panglima" , on August 31, 1963 on the occasion of the independence celebrations by Tun Mustapha .

One of the highest honors that the State of Malaysia has to bestow on him was given on June 7, 1967: The Yang di-Pertuan Agong awarded him the title Darjah Seri Maharaja Mangku Negara (SMN) . This award includes the right to put the honorary title “doing” in front of the name. He was also awarded the Malaysian Pingkat Peringatan Malaysia (PPM) Memorial Order.
