The Tun Sakaran Museum ( Mal. Muzium Tun Sakaran ) is a museum of the State of Sabah in Malaysia and a branch of the Sabah Museum . It is located about two kilometers from the center of Semporna in Kampung Imabah Kamal.

The museum has two floors. The ground floor is mainly dedicated to Tun Sakaran Dandais and his services to the state of Sabah. This part of the exhibition contains objects and biographical documents from the collection of the former governor of Sabah. The upper floor is reserved for the history and ethnography of Semporna. Particular attention was paid to the development of Islam in the region.

history

The first groundbreaking (with a CASE backhoe loader ) took place on December 31, 2008. While the shell was already completed in 2010, it took until 2014 to complete the interior fittings and the exhibition areas. Even before the official opening, the museum was open to visitors from 2014 to April 2015 as part of a soft opening.

The Tun Sakaran Museum was officially opened on April 25, 2015 by the head of state of Sabah, Juhar Mahiruddin . The opening took place as part of the "Regatta Lepa" event, which symbolized the museum's close ties to the traditions of the Bajau- dominated region around Semporna.

The funding (2.8 million ringgit) came entirely from the state of Sabah. The site was made available by Tun Sakaran, who was the eighth head of state of Sabah from 1995 to 2002, as a wakaf (donation of land).
