Jack Gleeson (born May 20, 1992 in Cork ) is an Irish actor and child actor , best known for his role as Joffrey Baratheon in the TV series Game of Thrones .

Career

Gleeson first encountered acting at the age of seven. As a child actor, he has appeared in supporting roles in films such as Batman Begins , Shrooms and A Shine of Rainbows . In 2010 he played one of the bigger roles in the film The Republic of Trees .

2009 Gleeson was for consecutive award-winning HBO - Fantasy series Game of Thrones occupied, where he the role of the prince and future king 2011-2014 Joffrey Baratheon played. In 2012 he also received a scholarship at Trinity College in Dublin, where he intended to study alongside his work as an actor.

In April 2014, Gleeson announced that he would end his acting career after Game of Thrones , as he had always considered acting, which he had been doing since the age of 9, as a leisure activity and had a full-time job associated with the aforementioned television series, which but he didn't want to. He later said he was misunderstood: he never ended his acting career, just took a break.

In May 2018, Gleeson publicly supported the repeal of Ireland's eighth amendment.

In 2019 Gleeson made two public appearances. In June he was part of the musical comedy program AMUSICAL at the Comedy Festival in Kilkenny, Ireland, with comedians Eleanor Tiernan and Alison Spittle. In August, he made a surprise appearance at Over the Top Wrestling's Trinity Brawl 2 event in Dublin.
