Philippa Boyens MNZM (* in New Zealand ) is a New Zealand screenwriter .

Life

The teacher's daughter from Auckland was initially a teacher and theater writer as well as temporarily chairing the New Zealand authors' guild. She wrote the scripts for the Lord of the Rings film trilogy with Fran Walsh and Peter Jackson . She also wrote the lyrics in the film. Her son Calum Gittins played the young Haleth in " The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers ".

After writing the script for a New Zealand remake of “King Kong” (2005), she most recently adapted Alice Sebold's novel “In my Heaven” for the film, again under director Peter Jackson. The film was released in German cinemas in 2009 under the same name.

Boyens was, along with Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, responsible for the script adaptation of the novel The Hobbit by JRR Tolkien .
