Mark Coulier

Mark Coulier (* 1964 ) is a British makeup artist who has been involved in more than 60 film and television productions since the beginning of his career in the late 1980s. He was awarded two Oscars in the categories Best Make-up and Best Hairstyles at the 2012 and 2015 Oscars for his work at Die Eiserne Lady and Grand Budapest Hotel . These two films also earned him two British Academy Film Awards for Best Mask . He is also the recipient of two Emmys for his work atMerlin (1998) and Arabian Nights - Adventures from 1001 Nights (2000).

Coulier was born in Leyland, Lancashire and attended Hutton Grammar School as well as the University of Central Lancashire at Preston and the University of the Arts in London . He began working as a freelance makeup artist for various film companies in London in 1987. He now runs Coulier Creatures FX in St Albans . Coulier designed the mask of Lord Voldemort in the Harry Potter films, the zombie army in World War Z and the burn scars of Niki Lauda in Rush - everything for victory . He received his first Oscar for the mask by Meryl Streep as Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady . In addition to his work as a make-up artist, Coulier also took on a one-time acting part in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace .
