J. Roy Helland

J. Roy Helland (born January 28, 1943 , Glendale , California , also Roy Hellend ) is a makeup artist who has been involved in around 60 film and television productions since the beginning of his career in the early 1980s. Since 1982 he has been responsible for the makeup and hairstyles of Meryl Streep in all of her films. At the 2012 Academy Awards , he and Mark Coulier won an Oscar for his work on Die Eiserne Lady in the category of Best Make-up and Best Hairstyles . This film brought him in 2012together with Coulier and Marese Langan for a British Academy Film Award in the category Best Mask . He has also received an Emmy for his work with Engel in America (2004) and was nominated for another British Academy Film Award in 2015 for Into the Woods . In addition to his work as a make-up artist, Helland also took on two acting roles in The Birdcage (1996) and Greetings from Hollywood (1990).
