Three Blind Mice - Mord im Netz (original title 3 Blind Mice ) is a British-French thriller by Mathias Ledoux from 2003 . Edward Furlong plays a witness who goes on the trail of a serial killer. The other leading roles are cast with Emilia Fox and Chiwetel Ejiofor .
action
Thomas Cross is a computer expert, he spends a lot of time surfing the internet. There he gets to know the Amsterdam woman Cathy virtually, with whom he chats frequently from now on, whereby both can also see each other via a webcam.
When Cross is chatting with Cathy one day, something terrible happens, she is murdered in front of his eyes, which Cross can observe using the webcam that is switched on. Since he is completely helpless himself, he panics and calls the police immediately, but unfortunately cannot give any more precise information about the murdered woman, he does not even know whether Cathy is really her real name and what her name is, let alone knows he her address. When he realizes this, he hangs up without identifying himself. The police followed up the 911 and showed up at his house, either he was really the only witness or the killer himself.
Assuming that Cross is the only witness, Claire, a young French police officer who specializes in cybercrime and who comes from Paris and is involved in the investigation of the Dutch police, also includes Cross in her work. She notes that several women have been killed in a similar manner to Cathy in recent years. The murders appear to be part of so-called snuff films, for which millionaires pay a lot of money. Even governments appear to be involved in the cases.
When the case is removed from Claire, she turns to Mark Hayward, techie and connoisseur like her, for help. The three of us now continue to determine. Cross, who then comes under suspicion of murder again, even investigates on his own at times, in order to get rid of the stigma of suspicion that weighs on him.

criticism
The lexicon of international films criticized the plot as "not very original".
Viola Wich from Filmreporter.de found that Ledoux had staged “a modern thriller with the usual crime fiction elements”. Obviously, the director is "impressed by the World Wide Web". Wich rated the “straightforward and entertaining storyline” as a plus point. The performance of the actors is "passable". Overall, “the thriller is of average quality and suitable for evening entertainment for younger audiences and computer freaks”.
The Portuguese site Movie Maniacs Blog thought this was a rather disappointing film with a confusing story and script. The plot is so sloppy that it is difficult to understand. The characters and situations are poorly developed and in the end you don't understand their motivation or the course of action on the edge. Edward Furlong is terrible and in the end, watching the film only costs time and money.
Johnny Web at Scoopy.com said the idea behind the film could have made a great film. In fact, however, it is difficult to say anything positive about the film at all, since the negative stands out: bad photography, incoherent plot, botched action scenes, mutilated dialogues, wrong technology, characters who have to behave stupidly in the service of the illogical conspiracy, and and and. In other words, you don't want to have to watch this DVD.
The English page 20/20 Movie Reviews said 3 Blind Mice was just a copy of Hitchcock's Rear Window . In both films, the protagonists are voyeurs who would be viewed with aversion by most people if they were not currently on a screen. Of course, the film is only a pale imitation of the Hitchcock classic, but there is at least one point where he trumps him - the character of his leading man at least agrees with the uncomfortable little habits he has. Edward Furlong, who plays Cross, tries admirably to elevate the character he plays above the somewhat inevitably shady behavior that demands his role. There is a fascinating idea behind the story, which would have required a sure hand and not that of the unknown director Mathias Ledoux and also a larger budget to be able to implement the ambitious plans. The way the story is presented is at best confusing but not a bit puzzling.
