Peter Hook

Peter Hook (born February 13, 1956 in Salford , Greater Manchester , England ) is a British musician . He was the bass player for the post-punk band Joy Division and after their breakup he joined the band New Order in the same function.
While at Joy Division, Hook was described as "a bassist who thought he was playing lead guitar ." He kept his distinctive style of play with the successor band New Order. Hook also contributed the background vocals on several songs by Joy Division and sang two songs on the New Order LP Movement from 1981 ( Dreams Never End and Doubts Even Here ).
With the increasing use of bass synthesizers on New Order (especially on the 1989 album Technique ), Hook's bass playing became more melodic and rhythmic, making the sound more like a baritone guitar than a bass.
Hook recorded an album as a bassist and singer with the band Revenge and two with Monaco . In the late 1980s he also started producing for bands like Inspiral Carpets and The Stone Roses . In 2003 he contributed his signature bass playing to several songs on Hybrid's Morning Sci-Fi album , including the single True to Form . He can also be heard on Gwen Stefani’s album Love Angel Music Baby (on the song The Real Thing ).
On May 4, 2007, Hook announced that he would no longer work with Bernard Sumner . For some time this was interpreted as the end of New Order, Sumner and New Order drummer Stephen Morris declared that Hook was free to leave the band, but that New Order still existed.
In September 2010, Hook's band project called "Freebass" broke up, in which Andy Rourke (ex-bassist of The Smiths ) and Gary Mounfield (ex-bassist of The Stone Roses, currently with Primal Scream ) were involved. Hook currently works as a DJ.
Since the opening of the FAC 251 club in Manchester in February 2010, Peter Hook has performed with the band The Light. The band has been touring under the name "Peter Hook & The Light" since 2011 and plays cover versions of Joy Division, especially the album Unknown Pleasures .
Hook's marriage to comedian Caroline Aherne ended in divorce.
