Gillian Gilbert (born January 27, 1961 in Manchester ) is a British musician and member of the New Order music group .

Gilbert jumped after the death of Ian Curtis , the lead singer of Joy Division , as a keyboard player and guitarist of electrical and Synthiepopgruppe New Order, which is 1,980 remaining from the three Joy Division members Bernard Sumner , Peter Hook and Stephen Morris refounded would have. Many months later the others called me and said Ian (Curtis) was dead and if I wanted to become a permanent member of a new band. ”The first joint New Order maxi-single was to be Ceremony with Gillian Gilbert as guitarist. At that time, the group still relied on the conventional grouping of vocals, guitar, bass and drums . Since Sumner initially had difficulty singing and playing guitar at the same time, Gilbert took over guitar from New Order at short notice. It was not until the following productions that New Order increasingly experimented with synthesizers and keyboards and Gillian finally took on the role of the introverted keyboardist in the background and provided the electronic sound carpet. She also contributed the spoken background vocals on the New Order album "Movement" ( 1981 ).

However, her voice only appeared twice on New Order publications: on the albums "Movement" and "Republic".

Gillian Gilbert is married to New Order member Stephen Morris and lives in Macclesfield near Manchester. They had a joint but not so successful band project " The Other Two ". However, after their daughter fell seriously ill, Gillian withdrew from the active music business for a while. Phil Cunningham took over the line-up for New Order in 2001 . Gilbert occasionally appeared as a guest musician with New Order and participated in the group's productions. In 2011 she got back in full.
