Power, Corruption & Lies (German: Macht, Verderbnis & Lügen ) is the second studio album by the English band New Order . It was released in May 1983 on Factory Records under the label number "FACT 75". The album was included in Rolling Stone Magazine 's Top 100 and listed on Pitchfork Media .

style

The album is characterized by the fact that the band has turned to synthesizer arrangements and thus distances itself significantly, also through the now lighter voice of Bernard Sumner , from the previous album, the first release Movement , which was still a musical reminiscence of Joy Division .

Cover

Fantin-Latour: A basket of roses , 1890

The title of the album was chosen by Bernard Sumner. The cover shows the painting A Basket of Roses by the French painter Henri Fantin-Latour , which is provided with a colored code on the side based on the single Blue Monday . As with Joy Division, the designer Peter Saville was responsible for the cover design , who simply used a postcard from the painter from the museum.
