Low-Life is the third studio album by the English band New Order . It was released in May 1985 on Factory Records under the label number "FACT 100".

Emergence

The album was produced by the band itself and recorded in 1984 at Jam Studios, London , and Britannia Row Studios, Islington , London.

layout

The album's artwork is the only New Order release that has photos of the band members on the cover. The cover first shows drummer and keyboardist Stephen Morris . Inside the sleeve are four photos and a semi-transparent piece of paper with the band's name on it, so you can choose which band member can be seen through the sleeve.

Publication and reception

The album was released in May 1985 on Factory Records. At the same time, the full version of The Perfect Kiss was released as a single (only an edited version appears on the album). John Robie's remix of Sub-Culture was also released as a 12 "single. These two extended versions were eventually included in the 1987 compilation Substance .

In 2008 the album was re-released in a Collector's Edition with a bonus CD, including the 17-minute full version of Elegia , previously only available on a limited CD of the 2002 box set Retro , and for the first time in digital format the unedited 12-inch mix from The Perfect Kiss .

The album received good to very good reviews. Both Blender magazine and Q rated the album five out of five stars. Low-Life peaked at number seven on the UK charts and number 94 on the Billboard 200 . It could not find a place in the German-speaking area. Like Technique, Low-Life was included in the 1989 book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die by Robert Dimery.
