Movement is New Order's first album . It was released on November 13, 1981 .

History of origin

In terms of style, Movement still relates strongly to the works of the previous band New Orders, Joy Division . After their singer Ian Curtis committed suicide in 1980 , guitarist Bernard Sumner took over (and bassist Peter Hook for two pieces, namely "Dreams Never End" and "Doubts Even Here" ). The songs "ICB" - probably short for "Ian Curtis Buried" (Ian Curtis was buried) and "The Him" are to be understood as references to the late singer. In contrast to later releases by New Order, the album is characterized by a clearly gloomy mood and a rather sparse electronic instrumentation. None of the songs was released as a single.

For 2019, an "ultimate reissue" of their New Order debut album has been announced. Many of the studio sessions will be published on it.

Cover

The cover was inspired by a poster by the Italian futurist Fortunato Depero .
