This discography is an overview of the musical works of the Joy Division music group .

The band released two studio albums , five singles and an EP until their official breakup after the death of the singer Ian Curtis . Of these publications, the limited to 1578 copies single light and blindness was distributed exclusively in France via Sordide Sentimental .

The self-published debut 7-inch single An Ideal for Living was revised shortly after its release due to poor sound quality and a controversial design and re-released as a 12-inch EP. The design of the single She's Lost Control was changed for the US market and given a varying catalog number.

The album Closer , and the singles Love Will Tear Us Apart and Komakino were released two months after Curtis' death. Closer entered the UK charts as the first Joy Division release. Shortly thereafter, the chart success of the debut album and the single Love will Tear us Apart followed . The highest chart placement was achieved by the compilation Still , published in 1981 , which entered the British album charts in October of the same year, held its own for 12 weeks and reached fifth place in the top ten .

After the group was renamed New Order , which was due to the singer's suicide, various compilations, live albums and radio session recordings from the group's active time were released.

Posthumous collections such as New Wave Hits of the 80's , Wave Romantics or Rock & Wave as well as soundtrack contributions in which the band is represented with regular releases from their albums or singles are not listed. In the line Composition the other represented interpreters are named, in the line Songs the pieces played by Joy Division. The four studio recordings were released on the Substance compilation in 1988, along with pieces from various singles.

Tribute albums

The abundance of tribute albums cannot be clearly quantified due to the many small publications. Most of the tribute albums are mainly represented by dark wave , black music or alternative music . In addition to many nationally limited tribute compilations, which are predominantly designed by small companies and which largely fall back on unknown interpreters, there are also albums by individual artists who are completely dedicated to the processing of Joy Division's music. An almost complete list including digital publications and existing string quartet adaptations is not given here.
