Steel Pulse
Steel Pulse is a British roots and conscious reggae band.
history
The formation was formed at the Handsworth Wood Boys School ( Birmingham , England) when David Hinds (vocals, guitar), Basil Gabbidon (solo guitar, vocals) and Ronald McQueen (bass) formed a band. Hinds, musical head of the band, has been the driving force behind Steel Pulse from the very beginning, ever since they established themselves on the Birmingham club scene. In terms of content, they were largely inspired by the ideas of Marcus Garvey , with whom they first came into contact through the music of Burning Spear . At the end of the 1970s Steel Pulse was one of the active bands in the Rock Against Racism movement and dedicated the song to the movement on their LP Tribute To The MartyrsJah Pickney - RAR
In 1987 they won the Grammy for Best Reggae Recording for Babylon The Bandit .
