The Eternal Afflict is a music project from Essen that was founded in 1989.
history
Influenced by groups such as Christian Death , Bauhaus or Virgin Prunes , The Eternal Afflict formed in 1989 . Mark was looking for a singer for a new project and found him in Cyan. Before that, they released three demo tapes under the name Romantic Affliction .
In 1991 the debut album Atroci (-me) ty was released , followed in 1992 by the EP (Luminographic) Agony . The best-known and most popular track is available on both: San Diego , which is still played in clubs today.
1994 was a dark year for the band as Mark and Cyan decided to split up due to disagreements about the album War and different world views . Notable projects after the split: Cyan Kills E. Coli and Inside where they partly worked together.
Four years later, in 1998, the retrospective collection Nothing Meant Forever was released as a hint that The Eternal Afflict had n't gone from the spotlight forever. This year the band also gave the first concert after the separation at the 4th Woodstage Summer Open Air in Glauchau .
In 2001 Cyan, Mark and Winus decided to record another album. Just to see if the collaboration works. In addition, no one actually managed to draw a line under The Eternal Afflict .
They took their time for the album Katharsis and only released it in 2003, as did the CDM Godless for Wave-Gotik-Treffen , where they also performed. In the meantime they played some concerts in Germany and Belgium. A year later the CDM Black Heritage was released, a rock-heavy release that not only caused positive surprises for fans . Otherwise, 2004 was a pretty quiet year for The Eternal Afflict .
In 2005 the album Euphoric & Demonic was released , which took up old elements, but did not refuse techno influences.
In 2006 the best-of album R (e) alict or Requiem was released on the Dark Dimensions label.
In 2009, in collaboration with the band Qntal, the scene hit "San Diego" was released in a newly arranged version as "San Diego 2K9". In addition to various remixes of the title track by Project Pitchfork , Die Krupps , Noisuf-X and other bands from the electro field , the EP also includes a remastered version of "(Luminographic) Agony" and 2 live videos from 2005.
In the course of 2014 TEA released a trilogy (2 EPs, 1 album) that deals with life itself and its individual facets.
style
The style of The Eternal Afflict fluctuated in the dark-wave and electro-wave environment until its dissolution in 1994 . With the later band revival, the sound also changed, with more electronic , techno and rock elements being added.
