Andreas Poach
Andreas Poach (also Andreas Poch; * 1516 in Eilenburg ; † April 2, 1585 in Utenbach ) was a Lutheran theologian and reformer .
Life
Little is known about origins and youth. Poach was registered as "Boch" in 1530 in Wittenberg , in 1538 he obtained the degree of master's degree and remained as such at the University of Wittenberg until 1541 . Then he was ordained for Jena and went with Justus Jonas the Elder to Halle (Saale) , where he worked for five years as a deacon at the Marienkirche . He was expelled from Halle by the Schmalkaldic War in 1547, refused an appointment to become a castle preacher in Torgau and took over the pastoral office at the Church of St. Blasii in Nordhausen .
On June 1, 1550 he became pastor at the Augustinian Church in Erfurt . There he was soon the most influential preacher and under his leadership the establishment of the Evangelical Church in Erfurt was strongly promoted. So he took over the visitation and examination system in the spiritual ministry . When Poach was supposed to become superintendent in Jena in 1560 , he gave up because he rejected the Konfutationsbuch . Instead he received the only Protestant professorship in theology at the University of Erfurt in 1566. As such, he interfered in the antinomist controversy and took the position that salvation cannot be achieved through perfect compliance with the law.
When there was a dispute between the denominations in Erfurt in connection with the occupation of the rector's chair in 1569 and Poach turned polemically against Johannes Gallus and the city council, he had to leave the field in 1572. Shortly before his release, he used the funeral sermon given to his deceased official colleague and fellow campaigner Georg Silberschlag as a detailed justification for his position. He does not deny that in the denominationally divided city of Erfurt one can have a "civil", good neighborly relationship with Catholics. But he is concerned with the boundary between everyday life, which is not influenced by questions of faith, and the ceremonial dealings of church officials with the “papist” opponents, who from the Lutheran point of view were no less than the henchmen of the Antichrist. After the impeachment, the city council also replied with a justification: Thorough and thorough report […] from what persistent reasons that both pastors […] were given leave of absence (Erfurt 1572; VD 16 : E 3729).
After stops in Markvippach , Vippachedelhausen and Mühlhausen , Poach finally took over the parish in 1573 in Utenbach - today part of Apolda . This position also gave him the opportunity to edit the postscripts of the Luther sermons based on Georg Rörer 's shorthand. This edition of Martin Luther's house postil is Poach's main work. It is more reliable than Johann Aurifaber's edition of Luther's table speeches. In order to be able to do the work on Luther's legacy, the value of which could only be measured in later times, he kept himself a deacon at his own expense.
