Georg Silberschlag the Elder
Georg Silberschlag the Elder (* 1535 in Erfurt ; † February 16, 1572 ibid) was a German Lutheran theologian.
Georg Silberschlag studied at the University of Erfurt under the rector Haußen. In 1556 he became a master and then a schoolmaster of the Barfüßer community . In 1559 he was appointed new preacher and in 1561 pastor of the merchant community . About five years later, Silberschlag also became the first teacher of Hebrew at his alma mater. During the confessional disputes in Erfurt, Silberschlag consistently sided with Andreas Poach .
He was buried in the merchant church. His successor in office was Berthold Sprockhoff (Sprocovius).
Georg Silberschlag was married to Barbara Gall. The couple had the sons Esaias (1560-1606) and Georg (1563-1635).
